The Pomona-Pitzer women's swimming & diving team was selected to finish first in the 2018-19 Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) Preseason Poll as voted on by member head coaches.
Pomona-Pitzer received seven first place votes and two second place mentions en route to 79 points in the conference preseason ranking. The Sagehens posted an 8-0 record in dual meets during the 2017-18 season, before cruising to 1166 points in the four-day SCIAC Championships to capture first place in the league standings. The title was the second in three years for the Pomona-Pitzer women's program.
Claremont-Mudd-Scripps (CMS) notched 72 points with seven second place votes, a first place vote, and a third place mark after finishing the 2017-18 campaign with an 7-1 dual meet record and 1015 points at the SCIAC Championships.
After a tight finish in the standings last year, Chapman (55 points) and Redlands (54 points) are slotted to come in third and fourth in 2018-19. The Panthers and Bulldogs both finished 3-5 in dual meets, while Chapman edged Redlands, 504-491 during the SCIAC Championships.
Occidental, which received one first place vote, is slated to finish fifth with 50 points following a 5-3 dual meet record and 353 points at the four-day league championships, while California Lutheran (38 points) is tabbed to place sixth after a 6-2 showing in dual meets and 413 points at the conference finale a year ago.
Whittier (25 points), Caltech (20 points) and La Verne (12 points) were voted to finish seventh, eighth and ninth respectively, after holding those spots last season. The Poets logged a 3-5 dual meet mark and 343 points at the conference championships, while the Beavers (0-8, 285 points) and Leopards (1-7, 213 points) round out the standings.
Cal Lutheran, Occidental and Whittier begin the 2018-19 season at the two-day Malibu Invitational at Pepperdine on Friday, Oct. 12.
